The sow stall ban comes into force across Europe in two months’ time. Yet half of all French pig farms are still not ready to comply with the ban. This means thousands of pigs will still be stuck illegally in cages beyond January.
A meeting is taking place on 30th October between the pig industry and government officials. They will discuss why there is such a problem with sow stall ban compliance in France and what they are going to do to resolve it.
We need to get an urgent message to the pig industry making it clear that delays to the ban are not acceptable and that urgent action is needed to implement the changeover.
