Gay Model Calls on Ex Marc Jacobs to Turn His Back on Fur
London – Male model and gay US television personality Austin Armacost today asks all fur hags to throw their skins out of the closet. The 24-year-old appears in a brand-new naked anti-fur campaign for PETA, just in time for London Fashion Week. The ad features a full rear view of Armacost holding up a sign that says, ”Turn Your Back on Fur”.
“As a gay model”, Armacost says, “I have always been dismayed that some otherwise progressive people in the gay fashion pack have such disregard for the animals who are skinned alive for coats, collars or cuffs – including my ex Marc Jacobs”. PETA’s new campaign specifically targets the gay fashion community and aims to create a buzz among gay stylists, editors and designers. Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier and Julien MacDonald are among other designers who, unfortunately, continue to use fur in their lines.
Furbearing animals suffer unimaginably in the name of fashion. Many are still caught in cruel traps, in which they can languish for days, starving and enduring excruciating pain. Some, especially mothers with babies, chew through their limbs in a desperate attempt to escape.
The eye-grabbing posters also encourage viewers to see “why fur should be left behind” by scanning a QR code that leads to Tim Gunn’s video exposé of the fur industry.
