Wildlife Friendly Kerbs

I recently saw a dead hedgehog in the road with his legs stuck through the grates of a gully. He must have got stuck and then ran over :-(

I have just read that Blairgowrie in Perthshire are piloting some ‘wildlife friendly kerbs’. The kerbs have a recess, so wildlife can carry on following the line of the kerb, when they come to to  drain they can walk in the recess avoiding the metal gully.

The new kerbs are being monitored, hopefully they will work as in a study of 322 gullies 69% contained wildlife (641 amphibians and 56 mammals).
