Six Year Old Raises £400 For Campaign To Rescue Bears

She might only be six years old but Eva Eaglesham has raised hundreds of pounds for a cause close to her heart – helping to re-home a trio of former circus bears.

Eva, from West Lothian, has raised more than £400 for the appeal – spearheaded by the Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder – to save Suzy, Carmen and Peggy from horrendous conditions in Belgium.

Javan Rhino Declared Extinct In Vietnam

WWF and the International Rhino Foundation (IRF) have confirmed the extinction of the Javan rhinoceros in Vietnam.

The findings, presented in a new WWF report, also point to poaching as the likely cause of the death, as the rhino was found with a bullet in its leg and had its horn removed.Genetic analysis of 22 dung samples collected by a Cat Tien National Park – WWF survey team from 2009-2010 affirm that the samples all belonged to a rhinoceros that was found dead in the park in April 2010, shortly after the survey was completed…

Animal Rights Activist Sacked Over ‘Fox Hunting Beliefs’

Joe Hashman, a professional gardener, alleges that he was discriminated against over his anti-fox hunting beliefs after bosses found out he was a leading saboteur and animal welfare activist.

The 43-year-old has been permitted to take his claim to an employment tribunal after a judge’s landmark ruling said his views on fox hunting should be placed on the same legal footing as religious beliefs…

Animal Rights Group’s Suit To Allege Sea World Is Keeping Orcas In Slavery

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals plans Wednesday to sue Sea World for allegedly violating the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution — which bans slavery — by keeping orcas at parks in San Diego and Orlando, Fla., organization officials said Tuesday.

The lawsuit, set to be filed in San Diego federal court, is considered the first of its kind and, if successful, would represent a large enhancement of the animal-rights movement. Part of the lawsuit asserts that it is illegal to artificially inseminate the females and then take away their babies.

Sea World officials dismissed the lawsuit as a publicity stunt. PETA routinely pickets the park on Mission Bay…
