We all know it’s better to adopt animals from animal shelters than to buy from pet shops or breeders, but as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. That’s why we want you to send us pictures of your mixed-breed animal companion for our 2010 Cutest Mutt Awards!
One winning pup and two runners-up will be featured on our website and mentioned in an upcoming issue of PETA’s magazine Animal Times and will win a great selection of pooch-pampering, canine-caring, doggie-delighting goodies. Even if your canine companion doesn’t take a prize in our contest, all rescued dogs who find good homes are winners – and so are their guardians.
Whether from a pet shop, a puppy farm or an individual breeder, buying a dog means that another in a rescue shelter will lose the chance to find a loving home. This goes for cats, birds, rodents and all other kinds of animals.
If you don’t already have an animal companion but you do have time and affection to spare, you can make a difference by adopting a loving “fixed” mutt from your local rescue shelter. And who knows? Maybe next year, he or she will take the top prize in our 2011 Cutest Mutt Awards!
