A new report published by RSPB Northern Ireland and Birdwatch Ireland has identified alarming declines in a number of bird populations across the island of Ireland. Of 199 species assessed, 25 have been allocated to the ‘Red List’, which names bird populations that require urgent action to secure their future on the island…

PetRetreat is the RSPCA’s information, advice and pet fostering service for families fleeing domestic abuse.

Since its inception in 2002, PetRetreat has helped 500 families and 600 pets – all victims of domestic abuse.

Through its network of animal fosterers, the service takes care of pets belonging to families who are going into a refuge until such time as the owner has a new, safe place to live, when they can then be reunited…

Chocolate Lures To Rescue Animals

Eight firefighters were called in to help find an escaped hamster in East Lothian. The crew used a chocolate covered camera to try and locate missing fudgie.

Meanwhile, down south, a chocolate muffin was used by the fire brigade to help rescue a dog trapped in a rabbit warren.
