World Animal Day was started in 1931 in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered animals. October 4th was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

Cat Locked In A Shed For Over A Month Survives

Misty the black and white cat has been reunited with her owner after being locked in a shed for over a month. The cat went missing on 24th August, but was only found last week in a shed close to where her owner lives in Peebles. It is thought the cat survived by licking condensation off windows.

Suffering Of Lab Animals Must Be Recorded

Advisory bodies on animal experimentation The Animal Procedures Committee and the Lab Animals Science Association say that the suffering of each animal experimented on should be recorded by scientists. At the moment only a general estimation on suffering is needed. The news has been welcomed by the RSPCA.
