A couple whose puppies were discovered starving and flea-ridden have been banned from keeping animals for seven years. They both pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to two dogs.

4 Dead Badgers Found In Wales

RSPCA:

The RSPCA is appealing for information after four dead badgers were found in a field near Crymych in Dyfed, south-west Wales, on Friday, 18 April.
A member of the public alerted the RSPCA to this incident. There were no visible wounds on the bodies. The badgers have been taken to an animal health veterinary surgeon who will conduct a post mortem to establish the cause of their deaths.

The Borneo pygmy elephant may not be native to Borneo after all. Instead, the population could be the last survivors of the Javan elephant race – accidentally saved from extinction by the Sultan of Sulu centuries ago, a new publication suggests.

The origins of the pygmy elephants, found in a range extending from the north-east of the island into the Heart of Borneo, have long been shrouded in mystery. Their looks and behaviour differ from other Asian elephants and scientists have questioned why they never dispersed to other parts of the island…

Dogs Feared Stolen Found Drowned

Two dogs who went missing from Barwick in Elmet and were feared stolen have been found drowned.

The bodies of Border terrier Meg and Jack Russell terrier Pepper were recovered from a sewerage works in the village last Friday.

Meg’s distraught owner Claire Murray, from Sherburn in Elmet, said she had received a phone-call from the RSPCA to say they had been called to the works where a lot of work was being done…

Faithful Dog Immortalised

A faithful dog who stayed by his dead master’s body on a Welsh mountainside is to be immortalised in a statue in the Yorkshire Dales

Border collie Ruswarp and his owner Graham Nuttall set out for a fellwalking trip in mid Wales in January 1990. Mr Nuttall, who was a campaigner for the preservation of the Settle-Carlisle railway line, bought a rail ticket from his home in Burnley, Lancashire, to Llandrindod Wells. He was never seen alive again.
