Japan Denies Buying Votes For Whaling
Japan on Monday denied paying for delegates of small states to attend international whaling negotiations after the premier of the Solomon Islands said he received an offer from Tokyo. Japan has long faced accusations of vote-buying as a growing number of developing countries with little tradition of whaling enter the International Whaling Commission (IWC).

A 24 hour nest protection operation is gearing up to be ready if Hen harriers once again nest in North East England this spring. Last year a pair of hen harriers successfully raised five chicks at a nest in Northumberland’s Tynedale, thanks to a 24-hr guard that protect the precious nest from disturbance. The RSPB and Forestry Commission have teamed up again this year, and trained volunteers and staff will be on standby to watch over the nest area if the harriers return.

As spring and the milder weather sets in and frogs deposit vast quantities of frogspawn in ponds around the country, a leading wildlife organisation is asking the public not to donate their frogspawn to other gardeners.
The advice is being given by Froglife to help national efforts to stop the spread of invasive pond plants, animals and amphibian disease.
