Activists Threaten Seal Hunters

Environmental activists who thwarted Japan’s whale hunt have promised to employ similar tactics to disrupt Canada’s annual seal hunt, which began yesterday.

Paul Watson, head of the American-based International Sea Shepherd Society, says he and other members of his group will document what they describe as the “perverse abomination” of the seal hunt.

Record Number Of Seals In Care

Hindu Temple Sues RSPCA

Monks from the largest Hindu temple in Europe, angered by the RSPCA‘s slaughter of its sacred cow, will serve the charity with legal papers today.
Gangotri, a 13-year-old Belgian blue-jersey cross, was put down on welfare grounds on December 13 last year by RSPCA vets.

Beach Walkers Urged To Look Out For Turtles

Since January four loggerhead turtles have been found on beaches in the South West of England, and 13 more were recorded around the UK and Ireland. Cornwall Wildlife Trust is urging beach walkers to look out for marine turtles after another rare Loggerhead washed up on a Cornish beach. The recent stormy weather and strong winds almost certainly washed the turtle ashore.

Pro-Seal Hunt Celebrations

The Canadian Press: Sealskin was the new black at the Swiler’s Ball on George Street Saturday. The event, planned and co-ordinated by the Fur Institute of Canada and local pro-sealing activists, drew a crowd of about 200 to celebrate sealers and the sealing industry in this province.

Each member of The Navigators, the band that performed at the event, wore a sealskin hat and used sealskin guitar straps (“So the guitars would be warm, too”).
